Searching for 80-84 Slider door handle
Hi Guys
Greetings from Vancouver...
I am looking for a new or used outside handle for the sliding door - My Italian friend RAMBO ripped my old one off
Anyhow I am thinking I can probably find one cheaper in Germany.... I will be visiting Berlin around Xmas time.
Does anyone know of a website where I can order one at a good price.... or a shop in Berlin that sells them..... or perhaps someone who can sell me a used one in good condition?
Thanks so much.
Just for clarity - THIS is what I need: http://www.vwbusshop.cz/zamky-kliky/kli ... -8-84.html
Thanks
Edward

Re: Searching for 80-84 Slider door handle
Hi Edward,
there are three possibilities:
1, a used handle, you can ask for in this section: http://www.bulliforum.com/viewforum.php?f=11
2, a cheap version which is sold here for example: https://www.tk-carparts.de/article/1485 ... __784.html
3, a genuine VW handle: https://www.tk-carparts.de/article/816/ ... __784.html
With the new handles you will get two new keys. You can adapt the expensive one to your own keys, the cheap one you can´t.
If you want to order a handle and you don´t have a place in berlin to send to, you can send it to me and pick it up when you are here around Xmas.
If you like i can adapt the new lock to your old keys...

Re: Searching for 80-84 Slider door handle
Hi Yamsun!
Thanks so much for your help and very generous offer! [I need to get busy with my FULL shopping list for my German visit > but I will bug you with that later ]
One question... probably a silly one - I understand that the expensive handle has an adaptable lock, BUT what about strength? Is the cheaper aftermarket handle just as strong and durable as the original VW handle? Does anyone have experience with the cheap one and have found it equally long lasting? My guess is that it is not as strong > but it doesn't hurt to ask
On the other hand buying a second-hand one is risky because it also could be on the verge of breaking......
A guy here in Vancouver wants $60CAD for a used original one... that is about 40euro.
Thanks again for your help

I have only good experience with the aftermarket part for the newer sliding doors.

Re: Searching for 80-84 Slider door handle
I also bought the remake and it`s very good.
I thing it might be better than the original one.
The original ones were well known for breaking.
Indeed you can`t plug your original key in the lock because it has another profil,
but you can build your old lock into the handle and use the plates and springs from the new
one to revise the old one so that not everybody can open it with a coin or something similar,
what is another well known bug.
Have a nice trip to Germany, the home of the vanagons!

Re: Searching for 80-84 Slider door handle
Nice to know the cheap one is good...neujoker hat geschrieben:I have only good experience with the aftermarket part for the newer sliding doors.
So with the cheap one it is possible to simply remove it's key mechanism, and install the key mechanism from my old broken handle?the-cableguy hat geschrieben: Indeed you can`t plug your original key in the lock because it has another profil,

That's a reasonable price... with this used one (original I presume?) I guess it is possible to either:Max Power hat geschrieben:30 Euro, used, but good condition. No key.
1) swap the key mechanism with the one from my broken handle
or
2) 'mold' the key mechanism to make my old key work
???

I´ll have a look tomorrow, but I think both options should be possible.
Original, of course.

Re: Searching for 80-84 Slider door handle
In your old handle is a very very small screw to hold the lock. Normally you can't see it because of dirt in the hole. If you can open it it takes you just a few minutes to switch the locks. To pull out the lock plug the key in and use it like a grasp.
Be carefull with the new one. Without a key in it the plates und springs can shoot away.
Making fit your old key doesn't work. I tried.

Re: Searching for 80-84 Slider door handle
The explanation on the webshop is a bit confusing. Due to aftermarket tolerances it sometimes works, and sometimes it doesn't. Then you need to modify it a bit, drilling/grinding I suppose. Then it should work, but not for shure.epowell hat geschrieben: So with the cheap one it is possible to simply remove it's key mechanism, and install the key mechanism from my old broken handle?

Re: Searching for 80-84 Slider door handle
Or you change the locks and sell the new one with the keys in an auction. Should be worth about 15€ i think. Of course only if you find somebody with a defektive one (corrosion for example) who doesn't matter having different keys.

Re: Searching for 80-84 Slider door handle
...OK, so the aftermarket one does come with a key/lock, but it is not 'mold-able' to other keys shapes... and swapping out the lock mechanism can sometimes be problematic?
Got it!
So for it looks like the nice used one from MAX seems the best way to go.
